About This Firearm

The Angstadt Arms UDP-9 SBR is a straight-blowback AR-pattern 9mm Luger built for home defense. It has an MSRP of $1,495. A 6 inch barrel and a 5.5 inch handguard hold the whole rifle to 22 inches, short enough to swing indoors.

The mil-spec Picatinny rail runs unbroken from the receiver onto the handguard, so an optic mounts without a separate base. Fire controls are Angstadt's EMT-9 trigger and a Radian Talon ambidextrous selector. One 17-round Glock magazine comes with it and the magwell takes any double-stack Glock magazine, so a spare is a day-one purchase. The A2-style flash suppressor unscrews from 1/2x28 threads when a can goes on.

If you're cross-shopping, the LWRC IC-9 SBR has an MSRP of $1,999 for an 8.5 inch barrel, includes a 33-round OEM Glock magazine, and makes the bolt catch, magazine release and charging handle ambidextrous too. The PTR 9KT SBR SF matches the 6 inch barrel at an MSRP of $2,295.40 and puts it behind a Choate side-folding stock with two 30-round magazines, so it packs down where the UDP-9 cannot.

Best For

GOOD
Home Defense
Last-round bolt hold open leaves the bolt back on an empty magazine, so a reload finishes on the bolt release and not a charging stroke. The flared magwell gives a fresh magazine a funnel to find when you cannot see what you are doing.
GOOD
Training
The handguard is lightening cut with M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, so a light, a hand stop and a sling point all mount where your hands already are. Because the top rail is continuous, a dot and a magnifier can sit in line on one surface.
FAIR
Suppressed Range Work
The A2-style device is a flash suppressor and not a sound suppressor, but the threads under it take a can. The handguard ends about where the barrel does, so a suppressor sits entirely out in front of it with nothing shielding your hand.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • Both receivers are 7075-T6 billet aluminum under a black hardcoat anodized finish.
  • The trigger guard is machined into the lower, so there is no roll pin to walk out of it.
  • Angstadt threads the bolt catch screw instead of pinning the catch, so that part comes out with a hex key if it ever needs replacing.
Limitations
  • The B5 Systems Bravo rifle stock is a fixed length, so length of pull does not change for a plate carrier or a winter coat.
  • An A2-style flash suppressor hides flash and does nothing about noise, and the muzzle is already close to your ear on a barrel this short.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it differ from the Angstadt Arms MDP-9 GEN2 SBR?

The MDP-9 GEN2 is the roller-delayed model, built on a one-piece monolithic upper with a side-folding Lage stock, and it has an MSRP of $2,175. The UDP-9 uses a straight blowback upper with a separate handguard and a stock that does not fold.

Does it take AR-15 parts?

The lower runs AR-pattern fire controls, and the grip and selector are standard AR parts. The magwell itself is cut for double-stack Glock magazines, so it is not an AR-15 lower and AR-15 magazines do not fit.

How many rounds does it hold?

Seventeen with the magazine Angstadt includes. Any double-stack Glock magazine fits, so a 33 round stick works too if you want the capacity.
