About This Firearm

The Angstadt Arms MDP-9 GEN2 SBR is a compact roller-delayed blowback 9mm Luger built for home defense and truck-gun work. It has an MSRP of $2,175. The Lage stock swings against the left side and takes the rifle from 23.125 inches down to 15.75 inches, so a 4.56 lb 9mm goes in a pack.

A continuous Picatinny rail runs the length of the monolithic upper, so an optic mounts without a separate base. Two 17-round OEM Glock magazines come in the box, and the magwell feeds any double-stack Glock magazine. The 3-lug device at the muzzle is a suppressor mount, not a suppressor, so the can is yours to buy.

If you're cross-shopping, Angstadt's own UDP-9 SBR has an MSRP of $1,495, runs straight blowback and sits on a fixed B5 Systems Bravo rifle stock with one magazine in the box. The CMMG Suppressed ZEROED Banshee Mk4 SBR has an MSRP of $2,224.95 and includes its ZEROED 36 suppressor, but it weighs 6.4 lbs and runs 29.5 inches with the can fitted, so the suppressed rifle is also the long one.

Best For

GOOD
Home Defense
The Radian Talon selector works from either side, so the safety comes off with whichever thumb reaches it first. Angstadt's EMT-9 is a drop-in fire control group, so a pull you don't get along with is a cassette swap and not a gunsmithing job.
GOOD
Truck or Pack Gun
M-LOK slots sit along the upper assembly and the endrail carries a QD sling socket, so a light and a sling attach without bolting on rail sections. The receivers wear Type III hardcoat anodizing and the barrel is black melonite, which is the right pair of finishes for a gun that lives behind a seat.
FAIR
Suppressed Range Work
The 3-lug device is a quick-attach mount, so a 3-lug can twists on and off without unthreading, and the 1/2x28 threads under it take a direct-thread can instead. The barrel is short enough that the back of a can sits near your support hand, and the Angstadt handstop gives that hand a stop short of the muzzle.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • It folds to the left, so the stock lies clear of the ejection port.
  • The upper assembly is one piece, so the optic rail and the barrel sit in the same part with no joint between them.
  • The barrel is chrome moly with a black melonite finish and a 1:10 twist.
Limitations
  • The Lage stock folds but does not telescope, so length of pull is fixed where Angstadt set it.
  • Both magazines in the box hold 17 rounds, so longer strings mean buying taller Glock sticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the SBR different from the MDP-9 pistol?

Angstadt builds the MDP-9 in both configurations under names that look alike, so it is worth checking which one a listing covers. This page is the SBR, the version with the left-side folding Lage rifle stock.

What finishes does it come in?

Black Type III hardcoat anodizing is the standard finish, with Magpul FDE Cerakote and Tactical Grey Cerakote offered as well.

Does it use AR-15 parts?

Fire controls are AR-pattern, and the grip and selector are off-the-shelf parts, a B5 Systems Type 23 grip and a Radian Talon selector. The upper assembly is Angstadt's own monolithic design built around Glock magazines, so it is not a standard AR upper.
