About This Firearm

The Tactical Solutions X-RING Takedown TSS is an integrally suppressed semi-automatic .22 LR built for pack and truck carry. It has an MSRP of $1,671. It weighs 3.9 lbs and comes apart behind the receiver, so a 34.5 inch rifle travels in two pieces with the suppressor already inside the barrel half.

An integral 15-MOA scope rail is machined into the billet receiver, and fully adjustable fiber optic sights front and rear come on the gun, so it can be shot as it arrives. It feeds standard 10-round rotary magazines and an extended magazine release is in the box.

If you're cross-shopping, the Ruger 10/22 Takedown is no longer made and is a used buy now. It weighs 4.6 lbs and runs a bare 18.5 inch barrel, so the TacSol is 0.7 lbs lighter and comes quiet from the counter. The Tactical Solutions X-RING TSS GEN2 has an MSRP of $1,691, stays in one piece and takes interchangeable rails with nine taper options. Both TacSol barrels hold a titanium baffle stack the owner can clean, so that part of the upkeep is the same either way.

Best For

GOOD
Truck or Pack Gun
Collapsed the rifle measures 19.5 by 7.25 by 2 inches, which goes inside a daypack instead of strapped to the outside of one. The stock comes in black, flat dark earth, Mossy Oak Bottomland or M81 if the gun is going to live outdoors.
GOOD
Pest and Small Game
The bore runs 12.9 inches and the titanium baffles fill the rest of the 16.5 inch barrel, so the suppressor adds nothing past the muzzle. Both fiber optic sights adjust, so the rifle can be zeroed for close work without an optic on it.
FAIR
Suppressed Range Work
The baffle stack is titanium and is meant to be taken out and cleaned, which a rifle fed bulk ammunition will want. The 15-MOA rail is machined into the receiver, so a flat mount for close rimfire work is not an option here.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • The receiver is billet 6061-T6 aluminum with a hard-anodized finish, and it is built in Boise, Idaho.
  • The receiver can be set up to charge from either side, and the bolt is stainless with flutes along the top that spread fouling.
  • A noise-dampening bolt buffer and a dual guide rod recoil system take care of the mechanical noise the action makes after the shot.
Limitations
  • The suppressor is part of the barrel, so it cannot be moved to another rifle.
  • A takedown joint is one more surface to keep clean, and the barrel half carries the suppressor, so the two pieces are not the same weight in a pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to the suppressor when the rifle comes apart?

Nothing. The suppressed barrel is a single piece and stays assembled, so the two halves are the barrel with its baffles and the receiver with the stock.

Can the baffles be cleaned?

Yes. The Clean-Lok stack is titanium, it interlocks inside the barrel and TacSol builds it to be user-serviceable, so carbon is a bench job.

What magazines does it take?

Standard rotary rimfire magazines, the same kind the Ruger 10/22 Takedown feeds from, so spares are cheap and sit on most gun counters.
