About This Firearm

The Franklin Armory F22-V Rifle is an integrally suppressed semi-automatic .22 LR built for pest and small game work. It has an MSRP of $1,249.99. Its 18 inch Angstadt Arms Vanquish barrel is the suppressor, and the baffle-free design means there is no baffle stack inside it to come loose or carbon-lock together.

A Picatinny rail is built into the F22 billet receiver, so an optic mounts without a separate base, though the glass is a separate purchase. The stock is a Magpul MOE X-22, and this build runs a factory Ruger BX-Trigger at 2.5 to 3 lbs with the standard Ruger bolt release.

If you're cross-shopping, the Ruger 10/22 Carbine is no longer made and is a used buy now. It weighs 5.0 lbs with a bare 18.5 inch barrel, so quieting one means buying a suppressor and paying for barrel work. The Tactical Solutions X-RING TSS GEN2 has an MSRP of $1,691 and a 16.75 inch barrel whose titanium baffle stack the owner can take apart and clean. A serviceable stack and a baffle-free barrel ask for different habits, since one gets stripped and the other never comes apart.

Best For

GOOD
Pest and Small Game
With the suppressor inside the barrel there is nothing past the muzzle to snag on a fence or a sling swivel while walking a field edge. The extended magazine release drops a magazine without moving the firing hand.
GOOD
Suppressed Range Work
Nothing comes on and off the muzzle between strings, so there is no zero to confirm after a can goes on. The knurled charging handle makes the bolt easy to run from a bench.
FAIR
Truck or Pack Gun
An 18 inch barrel with the suppressor inside it makes this a full-length rimfire, so the rifle does not shorten for storage the way a takedown does. A hard case has to be cut for the whole gun.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • The receiver is Franklin's own F22 billet unit, and this build includes an enhanced firing pin.
  • The trigger and the bolt release are Ruger 10/22 parts, so replacements are shelf items instead of factory orders.
  • Direct blowback drives the action, so there is no gas tube and no piston to foul on a rifle that will be fed cheap ammunition.
Limitations
  • The suppressor is machined into the barrel assembly, so it cannot be moved to another rifle.
  • Franklin quotes a multi-week lead time on this build, so it is a rifle you order and wait for.
  • Franklin fits the automatic bolt release to its Binary builds, so this one gets the standard Ruger part.

Frequently Asked Questions

What other F22-V builds are there?

Franklin sells the line as this rifle and as the Franklin Armory F22-V Pistol, which puts a 12 inch Angstadt barrel on an SB Tactical chassis and brace. Each one is offered with either the Ruger BX-Trigger or Franklin's Binary trigger, which fires on pull and release.

Is the muzzle threaded?

No. The Angstadt Arms Vanquish barrel is the suppressor, so there is no thread at the muzzle, nothing to adapt and no brake or flash hider to remove first.

How does a suppressed barrel change cleaning?

The barrel assembly does not open, so fouling is dealt with from the chamber end as part of normal bore cleaning. Bulk rimfire ammunition is dirty, so that comes round often.
