Winchester markets its Super-X 123-grain Power-Point for whitetail and big game hunting. The Power-Point is Winchester's soft point, a jacketed bullet with lead exposed at the tip. It leaves the muzzle at 2,365 fps with 1,528 ft-lbs of energy, from a brass case.
Compared with Federal's Fusion 123-grain, which Federal markets for medium game hunting, the Power-Point is 15 fps faster at the muzzle with 20 ft-lbs more energy. The two are close enough that neither speed nor recoil should decide between them; the bullets are what differ. Fusion is a bonded soft point, with the copper jacket bonded to the lead core, while the Power-Point is a standard jacketed soft point. Compared with Prvi Partizan's 123-grain PSP, a pointed soft point, the Power-Point is the slower load, 95 fps behind at the muzzle, but it kicks about 4 percent less in the same rifle.
Buy the Power-Point if you want a soft point that its maker markets for whitetail and big game. Pick Prvi Partizan's 123-grain PSP if you want more speed and do not mind a little more recoil. Pick Federal's Fusion 123-grain if you would rather have a bonded bullet at nearly the same speed.
