Brown Bear's 125-grain SP is a steel-case soft point for shooters who want a jacketed soft point and have no plans to reload the cases. A soft point is a jacketed bullet with lead exposed at the tip, and this 125-grain bullet is 2 grains heavier than the 123-grain bullets in the Winchester and Prvi Partizan loads compared below. It leaves the muzzle at 2,350 fps with 1,533 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Winchester's Super-X Power-Point 123-grain, which Winchester markets for whitetail and big game hunting, the Brown Bear leaves the muzzle 15 fps slower and kicks about 3 percent harder in the same rifle. The Winchester also comes in a brass case that can be reloaded. Compared with Prvi Partizan's 123-grain PSP, a pointed soft point in a brass case, the Brown Bear starts with 120 ft-lbs less energy at the muzzle.
Buy the Brown Bear if you want a soft point with a slightly heavier bullet and you do not reload. Pick Winchester's Super-X Power-Point if you want a brass case and a load its maker markets for whitetail and big game.
