Product Overview
Hornady's Superformance 129-grain load is for hunters who want speed and a flat path from a 6.5 Creedmoor. It uses the SST, Hornady's polymer-tipped hunting bullet, rated at a G1 BC of .485. At 2,950 fps it leaves the muzzle faster than any load it is compared with.
Compared with Federal's Terminal Ascent 130, a bonded, polymer-tipped load, the Superformance shoots flatter but is no better in wind. It starts 150 fps faster, and zeroed at 100 yards it drops about 26 inches at 400 yards against about 29 for the Terminal Ascent. At 400 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes each bullet about 11 inches sideways. The Superformance kicks about 4 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's American Whitetail 129, a soft point from the same maker, the Superformance starts 130 fps faster and handles wind better: at 400 yards the same wind pushes the American Whitetail about 13 inches.
Buy the Superformance if speed and a flat path matter most to you and a little more recoil does not bother you. Pick the Terminal Ascent if you want Federal's bonded, polymer-tipped bullet and a slightly softer kick. Pick the American Whitetail if you prefer a traditional soft point and less recoil. For practice, Winchester USA 125-grain Open Tip Range is a range load that kicks about 10 percent less in the same rifle.
