Product Overview
PMC's X-Tac 55-grain M193 is range and training ammunition for zeroing, drills and plinking. Its bullet is a 55-grain full metal jacket boat tail, a plain jacketed practice bullet with a tapered base, rated at a G1 BC of .243, and it leaves the muzzle at 3,270 fps. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes it about 37 inches sideways. Fire it only in rifles chambered for 5.56 NATO.
Compared with Hornady Black 62-grain, the PMC drops less but drifts a little more in the wind. The Hornady carries a heavier bullet with a G1 BC of .274 and leaves the muzzle 210 fps slower; at 500 yards the same wind pushes it about 35 inches. Zeroed at 100 yards, the PMC drops about 54 inches at 500 and the Hornady about 58. The Hornady also kicks about 17 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Winchester (Lake City) 55-grain M193, the PMC is a twin at the muzzle: both leave at 3,270 fps and kick the same in the same rifle.
Buy the PMC for drills, zeroing, and steel or paper out to 300 yards with a light, fast bullet. Pick Hornady Black 62-grain if wind matters more to you than drop and you don't mind the extra recoil. Winchester (Lake City) 55-grain M193 can stand in for the PMC at the muzzle. Pick ATS's 55-grain M193 if you want softer recoil and can give up 120 fps at the muzzle.
