Product Overview
Hornady's Frontier 68-grain BTHP Match is a target load for 5.56 NATO rifles; target shooting is one of the uses Hornady names for its Frontier line. The BTHP Match bullet is a match hollow point with a boat tail, rated at a G1 BC of .355, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,960 fps. Hornady also loads a 75-grain BTHP Match in the Frontier line, and the 68 is the faster, lighter-kicking of the two. Fire it only in rifles chambered for 5.56 NATO.
Compared with the Frontier Cartridge 75-grain BTHP Match, the 68 comes out slightly ahead in wind and drop. Hornady gives both bullets the same G1 BC, and the 68 starts 50 fps faster. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the 68 about 26 inches sideways and the 75 about 27. Zeroed at 100 yards, the 68 drops about 54 inches at 500 and the 75 about 56. The 75 also kicks about 19 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the 68 if you shoot paper and steel targets out to 500 yards and want the flatter, softer-shooting of Hornady's two Frontier match loads. Pick the 75 if you prefer the heavier bullet and don't mind the extra recoil. If light recoil matters more than wind, PMC's X-Tac 62-grain LAP kicks about 18 percent less than the 68 in the same rifle, though at 500 yards the same wind pushes it about 32 inches.
