Product Overview
Winchester markets its Super-X 300-grain JHP as a hunting load. JHP stands for jacketed hollow point: a jacketed bullet with an open cavity in its nose. Winchester rates it at a G1 BC of .283, and it leaves the muzzle at 1,880 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 12 inches at 200.
Compared with Grizzly's 300-grain JHP, the Winchester uses the same bullet weight and style but leaves the muzzle 380 fps faster, with 2,355 ft-lbs of energy against 1,499. The trade is recoil: the Grizzly kicks about 18 percent less in the same rifle. Grizzly markets its load for deer and elk.
Buy the Winchester if you want the faster of the two 300-grain hollow points for hunting shots out to 200 yards. Pick Grizzly's 300-grain JHP if lighter recoil matters more to you than speed. Fiocchi's 300-grain HPFN, a hollow-point flat-nose load that Fiocchi markets for big game, is the closest alternative in speed: it leaves the muzzle 20 fps faster. It drifts more, though. At 200 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Fiocchi about 12 inches sideways and the Winchester about 9.
