It uses Winchester's Power-Point bullet, a jacketed soft point with exposed lead at the nose, rated at a G1 BC of .308. It leaves the muzzle at 2,960 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 13 inches at 300.

Compared with Hornady's Superformance 225-grain SST, the Power-Point starts 120 fps faster but slows down sooner. At 300 yards the two drop within about an inch of each other. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Power-Point about 31 inches sideways and the SST about 18. The SST kicks about 21 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Federal's 210-grain Nosler Partition, the Power-Point leaves the muzzle 130 fps faster, and the Federal kicks about 5 percent harder.

Buy the Power-Point if most of your shots fall inside 300 yards and you want less recoil: it kicks about 20 percent less than Hornady's Precision Hunter 230-grain ELD-X in the same rifle. Pick the Superformance SST if you hunt open country where shots can stretch to 500 yards and wind is a concern. Pick Federal's 210-grain Nosler Partition if you want the Partition bullet and 10 more grains of bullet weight. Pick Barnes' VOR-TX 225-grain TTSX if you want a copper bullet with no lead core.
