Winchester markets its USA 125-grain Open Tip for target and range shooting. The bullet is Winchester's open tip range bullet, a jacketed bullet left open at the nose. It has a G1 BC of .272 and leaves the muzzle at 2,185 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 29 inches at 300.
Compared with Hornady's Frontier 125-grain FMJ, the Winchester is close to a twin. It starts 10 fps faster and kicks the same in the same rifle. At 300 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Winchester about 18 inches sideways and the Frontier about 20. Compared with Sellier & Bellot's 124-grain FMJ, the Winchester gives up ground past 200 yards. The same wind pushes the Sellier & Bellot about 12 inches at 300, and from the same zero it drops about 26 inches there.
