Product Overview
Remington markets the Premier AccuTip-V 75-grain as a varmint load. Its AccuTip-V is Remington's polymer-tipped varmint bullet, a different bullet from the AccuTip that Remington builds for big game. It has a G1 BC of .335 and leaves the muzzle at 3,375 fps.
Compared with Hornady's Superformance Varmint 75-grain V-Max, the Remington starts 205 fps slower with almost the same G1 BC, .330. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Remington drops about 40 inches at 500 and the Hornady about 35. The Hornady also kicks about 7 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's Custom 87-grain V-Max, the Remington starts 135 fps faster but gives up more to the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Remington about 23 inches sideways and the 87 about 20. The 87 kicks about 28 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the Remington if you want a tipped 75-grain varmint bullet with the lightest recoil of the three. Pick the Hornady Superformance Varmint if you want a flatter path at long range and can accept a little more kick. Pick the Hornady Custom 87-grain V-Max if wind is your main problem and recoil is not. For even less recoil, Nosler's Varmageddon 55-grain FB Tipped starts 425 fps faster and kicks about 38 percent less than the Remington in the same rifle.
