About This Firearm
The FN High Power is FN's own modern version of the Hi-Power, announced in January 2022 and based on the 1935 design by John Moses Browning and Dieudonné Saive. It is a single-action 9mm that holds 17 rounds and weighs 40.0 oz, at a $1,199 list price. The buyer wants a Hi-Power to shoot, not a safe queen, and is choosing between this and the Springfield SA-35.
FN kept the look: the tapered dust cover, long slide release and keyhole muzzle. Inside it is a new gun, with a modern barrel lockup, an internal extractor and no magazine disconnect. American Rifleman reports that it shares no parts with the original. The Springfield Armory SA-35 is the closer clone, lighter by 8.5 oz and $400 cheaper, but it holds two fewer rounds and ships with one magazine. The CZ 75 B is a steel-frame alternative for $300 less, but it is DA/SA rather than single action.
Buy the FN High Power if you want the Hi-Power shape with ambidextrous controls, a trigger rated at 5.0 lbs and capacity close to a modern duty gun. Skip it if you want a gun closer to the original's size and weight, in which case buy the SA-35.
