Sierra's Sports Master 240-grain jacketed hollow point is a mid-power .44 Magnum load, rated at 1,250 fps and 833 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Sierra builds it as a hunting and field load. Its power factor of 300 is far over the 165 USPSA major floor, which every load in this group clears with room to spare. From a 25-yard zero it drops 1.0 inch at 50 yards and 8.4 inches at 100.
Fiocchi Defense Dynamics 240, a semi-jacketed hollow point (SJHP), is the nearest match, 60 fps faster with about 8 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. The full-power 240s belong to a different recoil class. Atomic Bonded Match 240 adds 250 fps and about 37 percent more recoil energy, and Ammo Inc Signature 240 JHP adds 339 fps and about 52 percent more.
Buy the Sierra if you want a 240-grain hollow point you can shoot often, or a hunting load that stays controllable in a mid-weight revolver, and you do not need full power.
