Product Overview
DoubleTap's Hunter load is built around a 320-grain hard cast solid, a heavy flat-nose non-expanding bullet made to drive deep and straight for hunting and bear defense. It leaves the muzzle at 1,300 fps with 1,201 ft-lbs of energy. Its power factor of 416 is 251 points over the 165 major floor, about two and a half times it. From a 25-yard zero the bullet drops 0.9 inches at 50 yards and 7.3 inches at 100.
Both loads it is compared with give up momentum to it. HSM Bear Load 305-grain is the closest match in design; the DoubleTap is 40 fps faster with a power factor 32 points higher, and it produces about 16 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. Hornady Backcountry Defense 240-grain takes the light-and-fast route, with a bullet 80 grains lighter leaving the muzzle 320 fps faster. The DoubleTap's power factor is still 27 points higher, and its recoil is about 21 percent heavier.
Buy it if you hunt or carry a Magnum revolver and want the most momentum of any load compared here, and you can control the recoil that comes with it. Fire enough of it to know how the revolver moves, then do most of your shooting with something lighter. For that practice, Ammo Inc Signature 240-grain TMC produces about 34 percent less recoil in the same revolver, which makes it the better choice for a long session at the range.
