Product Overview
Blazer puts a 240-grain jacketed hollow point in an aluminum case and starts it at 1,200 fps, for 767 ft-lbs at the muzzle, the mild end of the classic .44 Magnum 240s. Power factor is 288, 123 points over the USPSA major floor of 165; every load in this set makes major by a wide margin. From a 25-yard zero the bullet sits 1.2 inches low at 50 yards and 9.1 inches low at 100. The aluminum case is not reloadable. The jacketed hollow point is meant to expand on impact.
It is the softest-shooting load in its set by a clear margin. Fiocchi Defense Dynamics 240-grain semi-jacketed hollow point carries 147 ft-lbs more and produces about 16 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. Ammo Inc Signature 240 JHP is a much hotter 240: 580 ft-lbs more at the muzzle and about 63 percent more recoil. Atomic Bonded Match 240 falls between them at 432 ft-lbs more and about 47 percent more recoil. Even PMC Bronze 180, the light-fast load of the group, kicks about 9 percent harder than the Blazer in the same revolver while carrying 458 ft-lbs more.
Buy this if you want the softest 240-grain hollow point in the set for practice or a low-recoil hunting load, and you do not reload. If you want a hunting load with more behind it, Hornady Backcountry Defense 240-grain hard cast delivers 1,398 ft-lbs, 631 more than the Blazer, with about 69 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. For practice that feels like the hotter 240s, Ammo Inc Signature 240 TMC ball carries 323 ft-lbs more at the muzzle than this load.
