Hornady Critical Defense 90-grain FTX is a polymer-tipped hollow point .380 Auto load made for personal protection. Hornady seats a soft polymer plug in the bullet's nose cavity. It leaves the muzzle at 1,000 fps with 200 ft-lbs.
From a 25-yard zero it is 1.9 inches low at 50. Its estimated recoil in a compact pistol is about 10 percent under Winchester PDX1 Defender 95-grain.
If you're cross-shopping, Hornady's American Gunner 90-grain XTP matches this load's 1,000 fps and 200 ft-lbs with an ordinary hollow cavity. Speer Gold Dot 90-grain is 40 fps faster with a bonded core.
