Product Overview
PMC Bronze loads a 170-grain jacketed hollow point, a self-defense bullet, to 1,200 fps for 543 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 204 and well over the 165 floor for USPSA major. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.2 inches low at 50 yards and 9.8 inches low at 100 yards where it is still carrying 960 fps. It is down to 1,118 fps by 25 yards, so supersonic is a muzzle-only fact here. Recoil energy in the same pistol is the second lowest of its comparison group, above only the PPU Defense 180-grain.
The other three hollow points it is compared with bracket it on speed. PPU Defense 180-grain starts at 1,082 fps, under the speed of sound, and gives up 75 ft-lbs to the PMC while producing about 6 percent less recoil energy. Hornady Custom 180-grain XTP is the hot load of the group at 1,275 fps, with about 24 percent more recoil energy than the PMC in the same pistol. The Winchester Super-X Silvertip 175 leaves at the same 1,200 fps and produces about 6 percent more recoil. The PMC sheds 240 fps by 100 yards, more than any of the other three; at 50 yards its 1.2 inches of drop will not be noticed.
Buy this 10mm Auto hollow point if you want a load that makes major with margin and lets you practice with the round you carry without full-power 180-grain recoil. If muzzle energy is the priority, the Hornady Custom 180 XTP delivers 107 ft-lbs more. If you practice with Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics 180-grain FMJTC, expect it to produce about 20 percent more recoil energy than this load in the same pistol, so it is not a like-for-like stand-in.
