Aguila's 140-grain FMJBT Target load is practice ammunition. Aguila sells it as target ammunition, and its bullet weight lets it stand in at the range for a 140-grain match load. The FMJBT is a full metal jacket bullet with a boat tail. It has a G7 BC of .256 and leaves the muzzle at 2,600 fps.

Compared with Winchester's USA 125-grain Open Tip, the Aguila is the heavier and slower of the two. Its bullet weighs 15 grains more, and it leaves the muzzle 250 fps behind the Winchester's 2,850 fps. The heavier bullet also kicks harder: about 13 percent more than the Winchester in the same rifle. Over a long day of position practice, a new or recoil-sensitive shooter will notice that.

Buy the Aguila for zero checks, position practice and steel with a rifle whose match load uses a 140-grain bullet. Hornady's 140-grain ELD Match is one such load. It leaves the muzzle 110 fps faster than the Aguila and kicks about 5 percent harder in the same rifle, so a practice session with the Aguila feels close to match day when the shot breaks. Shoot the ELD Match itself when it counts; Aguila sells the FMJBT for training. Pick the Winchester instead if lighter recoil matters more to you than bullet weight, or if your rifle's hunting load uses a 125-grain bullet.
