Product Overview
Winchester's USA 125-grain Open Tip is range ammunition for the 6.5 Creedmoor: the load to shoot for zero checks, position practice and steel, standing in for a 125-grain hunting load. Winchester calls its bullet an open-tip range bullet, made for practice and target shooting. It has a G1 BC of .371 and leaves the muzzle at 2,850 fps.
Compared with Aguila's 140-grain FMJBT Target load, the Winchester fires a bullet 15 grains lighter and starts faster. It leaves the muzzle 250 fps ahead of the Aguila's 2,600 fps. The lighter bullet also means less recoil: the Winchester kicks about 12 percent less than the Aguila in the same rifle. Over a long session of position drills, that difference is easy to feel, and it suits new shooters and anyone sensitive to recoil.
Buy the Winchester if your rifle's hunting load uses a 125-grain bullet. Winchester's Deer Season XP 125-grain, which Winchester markets for deer, leaves the muzzle at the same 2,850 fps and kicks the same in the same rifle, so practice with the Open Tip feels like the hunting load when the shot breaks. Take the Deer Season XP itself into the field; Winchester sells the Open Tip for the range. Pick the Aguila instead if your rifle is set up around a 140-grain load, since its bullet is the same weight as that load.
