Product Overview
Hornady's Subsonic 250-grain Sub-X is for hunters who want a .350 Legend load that stays below the speed of sound, and Hornady markets it for medium game. The Sub-X is Hornady's heavy bullet with a soft, flexible tip, made for subsonic speeds. It is rated at a G1 BC of .265 and leaves the muzzle at 1,050 fps with 612 ft-lbs of energy.
The heavy bullet holds its speed well: it is still moving at 969 fps at 100 yards and 908 fps at 200. What it gives up is height. Because it travels so slowly, it spends longer in the air and falls further over the same distance. Zeroed at 100 yards, it lands about 36 inches low at 200 yards, so shots past 100 yards call for a known distance. A steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes it about 8 inches sideways by 200 yards.
Buy the Subsonic 250-grain Sub-X if you need a subsonic load for medium game and your shots are close or at distances you know well. If you do not need a subsonic load, look at Winchester's Super-X 180-grain Power-Point instead, which Winchester calls ideal for hunters and sport shooters. It leaves the muzzle at 2,100 fps, twice the Sub-X's speed, with 1,762 ft-lbs of energy.
