Remington markets its 150-grain Full Metal Jacket for target shooting. It fires a full metal jacket bullet, a plain jacketed bullet with a closed nose, made for practice rather than hunting. The bullet has a G1 BC of .390 and leaves the muzzle at 1,905 fps.

Compared with Federal's American Eagle 150-grain FMJ, the Remington is almost the same load. The American Eagle starts 5 fps slower, and its boat-tail bullet has a G1 BC of .406 against the Remington's .390. At 300 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes both about 14 inches sideways, and zeroed at 100 yards both drop about 35 inches there. They kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Sellier & Bellot's 147-grain FMJ, the Remington starts 172 fps slower, and at 300 yards the same wind pushes the Sellier & Bellot about 12 inches. The Sellier & Bellot kicks about 4 percent harder.

Buy the Remington for target practice with a 150-grain bullet at 100 to 300 yards. Federal sells the American Eagle for competition and target shooting, and there is little to choose between the two. Pick the Sellier & Bellot 147 if you want more speed and a flatter path at 300 yards. Pick Sellier & Bellot's 124-grain FMJ if you want lighter recoil; it kicks about 23 percent less in the same rifle. If you hunt, Federal markets its Power-Shok 150-grain soft point for big game, at the same bullet weight as the Remington.
