Remington markets the Core-Lokt Tipped for big game. The bullet is Remington's Core-Lokt soft point with a polymer tip on the nose, loaded at 165 grains in the .30-06. It has a G1 BC of .447 and leaves the muzzle at 2,820 fps. At 300 yards it still carries 1,831 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Federal's Fusion 165, the Tipped is close to a twin. At 400 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes both about 13 inches sideways, and zeroed at 100 yards both drop about 30 inches at 400. The Tipped leaves the muzzle 30 fps faster. Compared with Remington's plain Core-Lokt PSP 165, the Tipped pulls ahead past 300 yards. At 400 yards the same wind pushes the plain Core-Lokt about 18 inches, and it drops about 34 inches from the same zero. Both Remingtons kick the same in the same rifle.
Buy the Tipped if you want a polymer-tipped 165-grain bullet for big game and your shots can stretch across open fields past 300 yards. Pick Federal's Fusion 165 if you prefer a bonded soft point with no tip; it matches the Tipped in wind and drop out to 400 yards. Pick the plain Core-Lokt PSP if your shots stay inside 200 yards, where the two Remingtons are within about an inch of each other.
