Compared with Remington's Core-Lokt Tipped 165, the plain Core-Lokt starts 20 fps slower and falls further behind with distance. At 400 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Core-Lokt about 18 inches sideways and the Tipped about 13. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Core-Lokt drops about 34 inches at 400; the Tipped about 30. The two kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Winchester's Super-X Power-Point 165, the Core-Lokt is the same load on paper: both leave the muzzle at the same speed with the same energy, and both kick the same.

Buy the Core-Lokt if you want a plain soft point for big game and most of your shots fall inside 200 yards. At that distance the same wind moves it about 4 inches and the Tipped about 3. Pick the Core-Lokt Tipped if you hunt open fields where shots stretch past 300 yards. Pick Federal's Fusion 165 if you want a bonded soft point that handles the wind as well as the Tipped, about 13 inches at 400 yards. Pick the Power-Point if you simply want Winchester's version of the same plain soft point.
