It uses the AccuBond CT, a polymer-tipped bullet whose lead core is bonded to the copper jacket. It leaves the muzzle at 2,950 fps with 2,705 ft-lbs of energy.

Compared with Hornady's American Whitetail 140-grain, a plain InterLock soft point at the same weight, the Expedition Big Game is almost even at the muzzle. It starts 10 fps faster with 18 more ft-lbs, and the two kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Winchester's Super-X Power Max Bonded 150-grain, another bonded bullet, the Expedition Big Game starts 100 fps faster and matches its 2,705 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Buy the Expedition Big Game if you want a bonded core and a polymer tip in a 140-grain hunting load. Pick the American Whitetail if a plain soft point is all you need; Hornady markets it for deer season, and at the muzzle the two are close to identical. Pick the Power Max Bonded if you want a heavier bonded bullet and do not mind the extra recoil. If you want a plain soft point at 150 grains, Federal's Power-Shok 150-grain starts 120 fps slower and kicks about as hard as the Power Max Bonded.
