About This Firearm
The Sig Sauer P322 is a polymer-framed single-action .22 LR pistol built for training and plinking. It is current in Sig's lineup. Its magazine holds 20 rounds, more than any other .22 pistol listed here, and the rear sight sits on a plate that lifts off to leave a Shield RMSc optic footprint cut into the slide.
Two magazines come with it, along with a threaded barrel adapter, a magazine loader and both a flat and a curved trigger shoe. The front sight is fiber optic and the rear adjusts. The safety is an ambidextrous thumb lever, which is a sweep a striker-pistol shooter does not make on a duty gun. The pistol weighs 17.1 oz on a 4.0-inch barrel and runs 7.0 inches long and 5.5 inches tall, so it is a full-grip range pistol and not a stand-in for a micro-compact.
If you're cross-shopping, the Taurus TX22 has an MSRP of $349 and holds 16 rounds at 17.3 oz, with three magazines and a 1/2x28 muzzle, but nothing cut for an optic. The Smith & Wesson M&P22 Compact has an MSRP of $439 at 15.3 oz, holds 10 rounds and threads 3/8x24, so it needs the adapter the Sig already supplies.

Strengths & Limitations
- Both trigger shoes come in the box, flat and curved, so the shape of the trigger face is a preference the pistol already covers.
- The slide is aluminum alloy under a hard coat anodize, which keeps the reciprocating mass low enough for rimfire pressure to cycle it.
- A magazine loader comes with the pistol, which a 20-round rimfire column and its spring make worth having.
- The thumb safety has to be swept off, and a shooter trained on a striker pistol without one does not do that by habit.
- The grip module is a fixed compact part with no interchangeable backstraps, so grip size changes only by buying another module.
- Shield RMSc is a small footprint, so the choice of dots that mount without an adapter is narrower than it is on a pistol cut for a larger pattern.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the threaded barrel adapter do?
It fits over the muzzle and gives the barrel an external thread, and a suppressor screws onto that. Sig supplies it with the pistol.
Why does a rimfire pistol have a fire control unit?
Because Sig built the P322 on the same architecture as the P320. The stainless fire control unit is the serialized part and the grip module around it is a separate component.
What sights come on it?
A fiber optic front and an adjustable rear, with the rear mounted on the plate that covers the optic cut. Taking the plate off takes the rear sight with it.
Where is it made?
The United States. Sig designs and builds the P322 in New Hampshire.
