Federal Champion's 115-grain FMJ is the softest load in this comparison. It leaves the muzzle at 1,125 fps with 323 ft-lbs of energy, a power factor of 129 that clears the 125 minor floor for USPSA and IDPA by about 4 points, the smallest margin in the group. Zeroed at 25 yards it is 1.4 inches low at 50 and 10.6 inches low at 100, having slowed to about 1,025 fps at 50. Estimated recoil energy in a 1.9-pound compact pistol is 3.9 ft-lbs.
Every other 115-grain ball load here is faster. CCI Blazer Brass is 20 fps ahead with about 3 percent more estimated recoil energy; PMC Bronze and MaxxTech are 25 fps ahead with about 4 percent more. Winchester 115 at 1,190 fps and Fiocchi Training Dynamics at 1,200 fps are 65 and 75 fps faster, with about 10 and 12 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol. The extra speed does little to the trajectory at pistol distances: the whole group sits between 1.2 and 1.4 inches low at 50 yards. At 100 yards the Fiocchi is 1.4 inches flatter than the Champion, which matters only for long steel.

It is also the one to think twice about for scored competition: a short barrel that loses velocity can push the 129 power factor under the 125 floor, and PMC Bronze or Blazer Brass give 2 to 3 points more cushion. For a stiff recoil spring or steel plates, Winchester 115 adds 65 fps and 39 ft-lbs at the muzzle and 45 fps at 50 yards.
