Product Overview
FN Herstal's SS195LF is built around a 27-grain lead-free jacketed hollow point, the lightest bullet in the 5.7x28mm lineup on this site, and it leaves the muzzle at 1,890 fps. The lead-free hollow point is made for shooters who want no lead in the bullet. From a 25-yard zero it sits 0.2 inches low at 50 yards and 3.4 inches low at 100.
Speed is the whole story with this load. At 1,890 fps the bullet stays so close to the line of sight that anything inside 50 yards takes a center hold, and even a 100-yard plate needs only a few inches of holdover. Recoil energy depends on bullet weight as much as on speed, and 27 grains is very little weight to move, so the pistol barely shifts between shots. That makes quick follow-up shots easy and keeps long strings of fire comfortable for recoil-sensitive shooters.
Buy the SS195LF if you want the fastest, softest-shooting load in the caliber, or if you need a lead-free bullet. Shooters who want more bullet weight should look at FN Herstal SS197SR V-Max, which leaves the muzzle 152 fps slower with a heavier bullet and produces about 89 percent more recoil energy than the SS195LF in the same pistol. For steel at close distance, Fiocchi Hyperformance 35-grain frangible is designed to break up on steel, and the SS195LF produces about 28 percent less recoil energy than the frangible in the same pistol.
