Fiocchi Hyperformance 35-grain frangible is a special-purpose load. The frangible bullet is designed to break up on steel, and close work on steel targets is what it is for. It leaves the muzzle at 1,700 fps with 225 ft-lbs of energy, and from a 25-yard zero it is 0.4 inches low at 50 yards and 4.2 inches low at 100.

Those drop figures mean a center hold works out to 50 yards, where the bullet is still less than half an inch low, and a 100-yard plate needs about 4 inches of holdover. The light 35-grain bullet also keeps recoil very low. Recoil energy follows bullet weight as much as speed, and 35 grains is little weight, so the pistol settles quickly between shots on a row of plates. That suits fast transitions across a steel array, which is the kind of shooting this bullet is designed for.

Buy it for steel at close distance, where the frangible design is the point. For paper and general practice, Federal American Eagle TMJ is the conventional choice: it leaves the muzzle 45 fps slower with 18 ft-lbs more energy, and the frangible produces about 20 percent less recoil energy than the American Eagle in the same pistol. Its fully enclosed TMJ bullet also leaves no lead exposed, which is the reason some shooters pick it for paper work.
