From a 25-yard zero it prints 2.6 inches low at 50 yards and 17.3 inches low at 100. Of the three comparison loads only Sellier & Bellot 230 comes close, at 853 fps, and the recoil estimates for the two are within about 1 percent of each other in the same pistol.

Magtech 230 at 837 fps and the brass-cased CCI Blazer 230 at 830 fps are 23 and 30 fps slower, with 20 and 26 ft-lbs less at the muzzle. In the same pistol this load produces about 4 percent more recoil energy than the Magtech and about 6 percent more than the Blazer. Sellier & Bellot 230 is 7 fps and 6 ft-lbs behind, too little to feel. Power factors run 191 to 198 across the four, so all of them make major, and what separates them at the range is the push, not the score.

Buy it for practice that should feel close to a full-power 230-grain carry load. Federal HST 230 JHP leaves at 890 fps with 404 ft-lbs, 30 fps and 26 ft-lbs over this load, and this load produces about 5 percent less recoil energy than it in the same pistol; among the loads here it is the nearest rehearsal for that carry round. Buy the brass-cased CCI Blazer 230 instead for the softest session in the set, and Magtech 230 if you want the middle of it.
