Oregon Unit 51 covers 976,784 acres and lies 12 miles south-west of Baker City and 49 miles south of La Grande. 46% of it is public land, mostly national forest (31%) and BLM (14%). In 2025, 1,847 people hunted elk here and took 367, a 20% success rate (sum of published weapon rows). Its most applied-for hunt, 251A, put up 825 tags (all residencies) in the 2026 draw for 78 nonresident first-choice applicants, 33 of whom drew, and the last tag went to someone with 1 point.
