Colorado GMU 17 covers 180,269 acres and lies 27 miles east of Steamboat Springs and 64 miles north-west of Boulder. 63% of it is public land, mostly national forest (36%) and BLM (19%). In 2024, 1,994 people hunted elk here and took 319, a 16% success rate. Its most applied-for hunt, EE006V1A, put up 1,240 tags (all residencies) in the 2026 draw for 403 first-choice applicants (one pool for residents and nonresidents).
