About This Firearm

The Springfield Armory SAINT Victor SBR is a direct-impingement 5.56 NATO short-barreled rifle built for home defense and truck-gun work. It has an MSRP of $1,249. Its 11.5 inch CMV barrel is cut on a continuous taper, which holds the whole rifle to 5.56 lbs.

The free-float handguard carries a full-length top rail, and aluminum flip-up sights come on the rifle, so it shoots as it arrives and takes an optic without buying a mount. The BCMGUNFIGHTER Mod 0 stock moves the rifle between 27.5 and 30.75 inches. One 30-round PMAG Gen M3 and a padded case come in the box, and the 4-prong flash hider unscrews from 1/2x28 threads when a suppressor goes on.

If you're cross-shopping, the SAINT Victor AR-15 Rifle V2 carries the same MSRP of $1,249 and the same 1:7 barrel at 16 inches, which puts it at 36.75 inches and 6.75 lbs. The IWI Zion-15 SBR has an MSRP of $999.99 and a shorter 10.5 inch barrel, but it weighs 6.5 lbs, so the cheaper gun is the heavier one to carry.

Best For

GOOD
Home Defense
The safety selector throws 45 degrees and works from either side, with a short lever on the right so a right-handed grip does not have to break to flick it off. Both sights fold flat under an optic and flip up by hand if the optic goes dark.
GOOD
Truck or Pack Gun
The padded case Springfield includes is sized for the rifle, so it stows behind a seat without a second purchase. QD sling sockets are built into the handguard, so a sling goes on without clamping anything to the rail.
FAIR
Range/Target
A carbine-length gas system on a barrel this short runs hot and dirty through long strings, so plan on short strings with pauses between them. The trigger is a nickel boron coated GI single stage, and the lower takes any AR-15 drop-in trigger if you want a lighter pull for paper work.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • The bolt is 9310 steel in an enhanced M16 carrier, high pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected, so the wear parts are the ones a duty carbine uses.
  • Both receivers are forged 7075 T6 with a Type III hardcoat anodized finish, and the upper keeps a forward assist and M4 feed ramps.
  • The gas block is taper pinned to the barrel, which keeps it in place without a set screw to back out.
Limitations
  • The flash hider puts a lot of noise back toward the shooter indoors, and on a barrel this short the muzzle is already close to your ear.
  • The stock and grip are BCMGUNFIGHTER parts, so changing the feel of either one means buying into another maker's shapes.
  • Accessories hang off M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom of the handguard, so a Picatinny light mount or hand stop needs an adapter rail first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it take standard AR-15 magazines?

Yes. It feeds from STANAG-pattern AR-15 magazines, and the one Springfield includes is a Magpul PMAG Gen M3.

Will the handguard clear a suppressor?

The handguard free-floats and ends short of the muzzle, so the threads sit exposed. A can screws straight onto the 1/2x28 threads once the flash hider comes off.

How does this differ from the SAINT Victor rifles?

This is the short-barreled version of the same line, with the BCMGUNFIGHTER Mod 0 stock and Mod 3 grip and the same CMV barrel steel and nitride finish. The rifles use a longer barrel and a different stock.

What does the continuous taper barrel profile do?

It thins gradually from the chamber to the muzzle instead of stepping down at the gas block, which is where the weight saving comes from on a barrel this short.
