Product Overview
Hornady's Match 180-grain ELD Match is a target load for steel and paper. It uses Hornady's ELD Match bullet, a polymer-tipped match bullet with a boat tail, rated at a G7 BC of .401, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,975 fps. At 500 yards it is still moving at 2,407 fps.
The heavy, low-drag bullet keeps wind and drop small for a target shooter. In a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range, the 180 moves about 4 inches sideways at 300 yards and about 10 inches at 500; that is how far the wind carries the bullet away from the point you aimed at. Zeroed at 200 yards, it drops about 6 inches at 300 and about 34 inches at 500. Those are the two corrections a shooter has to make on a 500-yard target, and with this load both stay modest.
Buy the 180 ELD Match if you shoot steel and paper out to 500 yards with a 7mm PRC and want a load Hornady built for targets. For hunting, pick Hornady's Precision Hunter 175-grain ELD-X, which Hornady markets for large game. It leaves the muzzle 25 fps faster and kicks about 5 percent less in the same rifle, but the same wind pushes it about 12 inches at 500 yards.
