Black Hills makes this 405-grain load for cowboy action shooting. It uses a flat-point lead bullet, as Black Hills describes it: a plain lead bullet with a flat tip. Black Hills gives a muzzle velocity of 1,250 fps from a 24-inch barrel.
Those are the lowest figures of any .45-70 load on the site: no other load leaves the muzzle slower than 1,250 fps or carries less than the Black Hills' 1,405 ft-lbs at the muzzle. The weight is in the bullet instead. At 405 grains, it is heavier than any jacketed .45-70 load on the site.
Buy the Black Hills if you shoot cowboy action matches with a .45-70 and want a load Black Hills makes for that sport.
