Product Overview
Hornady's Match 225-grain ELD Match is a target load for steel and paper. The ELD Match is Hornady's polymer-tipped match bullet with a boat tail. Hornady rates it at a G1 BC of .777 and a G7 BC of .391, so it can go into a ballistic calculator on either drag model, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,810 fps.
The heavy bullet holds its speed well: it is still moving 2,249 fps at 500 yards, faster at that distance than any other .300 PRC load on the site. That keeps wind drift small. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes it about 11 inches sideways, and at 300 yards the same wind moves it about 4. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 12 inches at 300 and about 47 at 500.
Buy it if you shoot steel and paper out to 500 yards and want a heavy bullet that keeps wind drift small. It is a target load, so hunters should pick Hornady's Precision Hunter 212-grain ELD-X instead, which Hornady markets for large game. The ELD-X is Hornady's polymer-tipped hunting bullet, and it flies a similar path: from the same 100-yard zero it drops about 46 inches at 500, and the same wind pushes it about 13 inches there. It also kicks about 10 percent less in the same rifle.
