Barnes built this VOR-TEX 130-grain TTSX Reduced Recoil load for medium game out to 300 yards, and it says the load is for young hunters and anyone who prefers lighter recoil. The TTSX is a polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core. It leaves the muzzle at 2,760 fps with 2,199 ft-lbs of energy, well below a full-power 150-grain .30-06 load.
Compared with Hornady's Custom Lite 125-grain SST, the other soft-kicking load in the lineup, the Barnes is 60 fps faster at the muzzle and kicks about 11 percent harder in the same rifle. The Hornady uses a polymer-tipped bullet with a lead core. Compared with Federal's PowerShok 150-grain Copper HP, which also has no lead core, the Barnes gives up 150 fps at the muzzle, and the Federal kicks about 41 percent harder in the same rifle. The Federal bullet is a copper hollow point without a polymer tip.
Buy the Barnes if you or a new hunter want a copper bullet with a milder kick than a standard .30-06 load, for the medium game Barnes names. Pick the Hornady Custom Lite 125 if the softest recoil matters more than the bullet material. Pick the Federal PowerShok Copper 150 if recoil does not bother you and you want a full-power copper load. Remington's 125-grain Core-Lokt PSP is the fast lightweight option: it leaves the muzzle 380 fps faster than the Barnes and kicks only about 7 percent harder.
