Remington markets Core-Lokt Tipped for big game. It puts a polymer tip on Remington's Core-Lokt soft point, and Remington rates the bullet at a G1 BC of .447. The 130-grain load leaves the muzzle at 3,080 fps, and at 300 yards it still carries 1,751 ft-lbs.
Compared with Winchester's Deer Season XP 130-grain, the Core-Lokt Tipped is almost even. It starts 20 fps faster, and at 500 yards a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes each bullet about 18 inches sideways. Zeroed at 200 yards, the Core-Lokt Tipped drops about 37 inches at 500 and the Deer Season XP about 38. Compared with Federal's Power-Shok 130-grain, a plain soft point, the gap is wider: the same wind pushes the Power-Shok about 23 inches at 500 yards, and from the same zero it drops about 41. The two kick within about 1 percent of each other in the same rifle.
