Product Overview
Federal AE 75-grain TMJ is a full metal jacket .224 Valkyrie load made for target shooting. A plain jacket closes over the nose, with nothing in the bullet meant to open up. It leaves the muzzle at 3,000 fps with 1,499 ft-lbs and a G1 BC of .400.
Zeroed at 200 yards, it drops 6.9 inches at 300 and 20.3 inches at 400. From a 100-yard zero it drops 11.6 inches at 300 and 26.5 inches at 400.
If you're cross-shopping, Hornady's BLACK 75-grain BTHP is a match hollow point at the same bullet weight and the same 3,000 fps, and it drops 20.4 inches at 400 from a 200-yard zero. Federal lists this load for competition and long-range target shooting as well.
- A plain full metal jacket, the practice load in a caliber whose other 75-grain offering is a match hollow point
- Light enough on recoil for long strings, with only the caliber's 60- and 69-grain loads below it
- Still moving at 2,124 fps at 400 yards
- Nothing in the bullet is meant to open up, so it is a paper-and-steel load only
- A lower G1 BC than every .224 Valkyrie load heavier than 75 grains, so the match loads hold their speed better past 300 yards
