HSM loads its Cowboy Action round with a 240-grain plain lead semi-wadcutter for cowboy-action matches. It leaves the muzzle at 1,150 fps with 705 ft-lbs of energy, and its power factor of 276 clears the 165 major floor with room to spare. That modest speed shapes both how it flies and how it feels in the hand.
From a 25-yard zero it is 1.3 inches low at 50 yards and 9.9 inches low at 100, so 8.6 of those inches come in the second 50 yards. Inside 50 yards the path stays close to the sights; beyond that the slow bullet needs a real hold over, and it is not a load for stretching the distance. The same speed keeps the recoil down. At 1,150 fps on a 240-grain bullet it is a light load by .44 Magnum standards, well below the caliber's full-power hunting loads, which keeps a long match day manageable in a heavy revolver.
