Product Overview
Winchester USA's .380 is a 95-grain full metal jacket at 955 fps and 190 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 91, nowhere near the 125 USPSA minor floor. From a 25-yard zero the trajectory table shows 2.1 inches of drop at 50 yards and 15.4 at 100. Those are large numbers on paper and irrelevant in use: a .380 pocket pistol gets shot at 7 to 15 yards, where the sights still cover the hole.
Among the 95-grain ball loads on this site it sits in the middle. Federal Range and Target 95-grain and Federal American Eagle 95-grain are the fast pair at 980 fps, 25 fps ahead of the Winchester with 13 ft-lbs more at the muzzle and about 4 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol. Aguila 95-grain is 10 fps behind at 945 fps and within 2 percent on recoil, close enough to call the two interchangeable. Armscor 95-grain is the soft end of the set at 920 fps, 35 fps slower than the Winchester with about 6 percent less recoil. None of these differences changes the hold at the distances a .380 gets used.
Buy it for pocket-pistol practice when you want a load that splits the difference between the two Federals and the Armscor, or as a stand-in for a mid-velocity 95-grain carry round. If your carry load is Winchester's own PDX1 Defender 95-grain JHP, that hollow point leaves at 1,000 fps and produces about 8 percent more recoil energy than the USA ball in the same pistol; Federal Range and Target at 980 fps gets within 3 percent of it and is the closer practice match. If soft is the whole point, Armscor 95-grain at 920 fps has the lowest recoil estimate of the loads compared here.
