Product Overview
CCI Blazer Brass loads a 95-grain FMJ at 945 fps for 188 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 90, nowhere near the 125 minor floor, and no standard-pressure .380 ball load gets there. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 2.2 inches low at 50 yards and 15.7 inches low at 100, and it has slowed to 857 fps by the 50-yard line. Those are the numbers of a close-range pistol cartridge, and the recoil estimate that goes with them only means something next to the other loads in the set.
Aguila 95 matches it line for line: 945 fps, 188 ft-lbs and the same recoil energy in the same pistol. PMC Bronze 90 leaves 16 fps faster with a lighter bullet and produces about 8 percent less recoil energy. Winchester Service Grade 95 and Fiocchi 95 are 10 and 15 fps faster and stay within 3 percent of the Blazer on recoil. Federal American Eagle 95 is the hot end of this set at 980 fps, 35 fps over the Blazer, with about 6 percent more recoil energy. The spread from softest to hardest in the group is about 15 percent, and nothing inside it changes where a pocket pistol hits at practical distance.
Buy it for pocket-pistol practice when you want a brass case you can reload and recoil in the middle of the .380 ball band. It doubles as a stand-in for a 95-grain carry load without the extra snap. If your carry round is Winchester PDX1 Defender 95, that hollow point leaves at 1,000 fps with 211 ft-lbs and about 10 percent more recoil energy than the Blazer, so end each session with a magazine of it. If the softest ball load matters more than matching a carry round, PMC Bronze 90 at 185 ft-lbs is the gentler pick.
