What the agency says about the area
The state is divided into three elk management units. No elk hunting is currently allowed in Unit 1. Unit 2 includes parts of Clay, Dickinson, Riley and Geary counties. Unit 2A is the Fort Riley reservation. Unit 3 is the remaining part of the state. Boundary taken from the Department of Defense's own Fort Riley installation boundary; it lies wholly inside elk unit 2, so unit 2 and unit 2A overlap and their acres must not be added together.
