California Zone D9 covers 932,667 acres and lies 39 miles east of Bakersfield and 50 miles north of Lancaster. 59% of it is public land, mostly BLM (30%) and national forest (18%). In 2025, hunters took 342 deer here; hunter counts not published. Its most applied-for hunt, D9, put up 2,000 tags (all residencies) in the 2024 draw for 540 first-choice applicants (one pool for residents and nonresidents).
