Federal markets its Power-Shok 300-grain for big game. The bullet is a soft point: a lead core in a copper jacket, with exposed lead at the nose and no polymer tip. It is rated at a G1 BC of .225 and leaves the muzzle at 1,900 fps. By 100 yards it has slowed to 1,591 fps.
With a heavy bullet at a modest speed, drop is the figure that decides how far you can shoot it. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Power-Shok lands about 12 inches low at 200 yards, so know the distance before you take a shot that far. Wind moves it nearly as much. At 200 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the line of fire pushes it about 11 inches sideways, which is how far from the spot you aimed at the bullet lands. Both figures grow quickly beyond 200 yards, and the trajectory table shows by how much.
Buy the Power-Shok if you want a 300-grain soft point for big game, as Federal markets it, and your shots stay inside 200 yards.
