Product Overview
Federal markets its Gold Medal Match 168-grain load for competition, long range and target shooting. It uses Sierra's MatchKing, a match hollow point with a boat tail, which Federal rates at a G1 BC of .462. It leaves the muzzle at 2,650 fps.
For a match load, wind matters more than drop: drop is the same every shot and a scope can be set for it, while wind changes from one shot to the next. In a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range, the MatchKing is pushed about 7 inches sideways at 300 yards and about 22 inches at 500. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 62 inches at 500. A 200-yard zero cuts the drop at 300 from about 15 inches to about 9, which suits steel and paper set between 200 and 500 yards.
Buy Gold Medal Match 168 if you shoot paper or steel matches out to 500 yards and want the load Federal markets for competition and long range. It is a target load; if you hunt, pick Hornady's Superformance CX 165-grain instead. Hornady markets it for large game, and it starts 100 fps faster with the same kick in the same rifle.
