Wisconsin's hunting regulations make it illegal to hunt with a suppressor unless you hold the federal licence authorising the device — a condition that applies to every species and all land. There is nothing behind it in the state's wildlife statutes or hunting rules; the department is restating the criminal code, which makes possessing a suppressor a felony unless you have complied with the federal licensing and registration requirements. ATF stopped requiring that registration on 9 October 2026, so the cleanest way to meet both the department's wording and the statute is to file the free voluntary registration and keep the approved form. The statute has not been amended since 2007, despite claims online that Wisconsin changed it in 2015.
