Lapua's Mega 120-grain SP is a lead-core soft point for .260 Remington shooters who don't need a lead-free bullet. Mega is Lapua's soft point, a jacketed lead-core bullet with exposed lead at the nose. It leaves the muzzle at 2,950 fps with 2,320 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Lapua Naturalis 120-grain Solid, Lapua's solid copper bullet, the Mega matches it at the muzzle and in recoil, so the choice between the two is lead or copper. Compared with Barnes VOR-TX 120-grain TTSX, a polymer-tipped copper bullet that Barnes markets for big and medium game, the Mega is again even: both leave the muzzle at 2,950 fps and kick the same in the same rifle.
Buy the Mega if you want a lead-core soft point at 120 grains and have no need for copper. Pick the Naturalis if you want Lapua's lead-free bullet at the same speed and recoil. Pick the Barnes VOR-TX TTSX if you want a tipped copper bullet at the same speed. Pick the Fort Scott Munitions 123-grain TUI if you want more speed: it leaves the muzzle at 3,026 fps, 76 fps faster than the Mega, and kicks about 8 percent harder in the same rifle.
