How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

DoubleTap's 120-grain Barnes TTSX is for shooters who want Barnes's tipped copper bullet in a .260 Remington load. The TTSX is an all-copper bullet with a polymer tip and no lead core. DoubleTap loads it to 2,950 fps at the muzzle, with 2,320 ft-lbs of energy.

Compared with Barnes VOR-TX 120-grain TTSX, Barnes's own load of the same bullet, the DoubleTap is a twin at the muzzle: both leave at 2,950 fps and kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Fort Scott Munitions' 123-grain TUI, a solid copper bullet, the DoubleTap trades speed for softer recoil. The Fort Scott load starts at 3,026 fps, 76 fps faster, and carries 181 ft-lbs more at the muzzle, but it kicks about 8 percent harder in the same rifle.

Buy the DoubleTap if you want the TTSX bullet with less recoil than the Fort Scott load. The Barnes VOR-TX TTSX is the same bullet at the same speed, and Barnes markets its own load for big and medium game, so either one does the same job. Pick the Fort Scott Munitions TUI if you want the extra speed and don't mind the added recoil. Pick Nosler's Expansion Tip 120-grain E-Tip if you prefer Nosler's tipped copper bullet; it also leaves the muzzle at 2,950 fps. For target work, Hornady markets its 130-grain ELD Match as a target load; it kicks about 12 percent harder than the DoubleTap in the same rifle.

Strengths
  • Loads the same Barnes TTSX bullet as Barnes VOR-TX 120-grain TTSX, at the same 2,950 fps
  • About 8 percent less recoil than the Fort Scott Munitions 123-grain TUI in the same rifle
  • A 120-grain copper bullet with no lead core
Limitations
  • The Fort Scott Munitions 123-grain TUI starts 76 fps faster
  • Its 2,320 ft-lbs at the muzzle is 181 less than the Fort Scott Munitions 123-grain TUI
  • No speed or recoil edge over Nosler's Expansion Tip 120-grain E-Tip, which also leaves at 2,950 fps
